Our very own Martin Ennis delivered a presentation called ‘Making Money from Sports Photography’, where he went through his successful career as a sports photographer.
He covered off many topics from working professionally and the challenge of standing for a full day on a cold wet February day to cover an event like Tough Mudder, too a leisurely afternoon photographing cricket. Which event has the most potential to generate income and the different ways as a photographer you generate income from events.
There were plenty of photography tips, including on how to frame a photograph, which could be used in many genres of photography; how to maximise your chances of capturing an athlete; how to capture the day and not just the race/event, but by capturing photographs of the event staff, spectators and background activities which make many of these events so successful and help with the marketing of following events by the organisers.
The emotion of the days events, were well captured and shown in his photographs. I think this was the standout of the evenings talk and how a simple still photograph can show so much emotion.
